Review – Nogii protein bars and powders – Gluten Free and super delish!

Gluten free has come a long way. I remember almost 10 years ago the lack of options and FLAVOR! I am not GF but have always tried different GF options. Needless to say I was pretty psyched to try the Nogii line.

I wasn’t familiar with Nogii so I took to the www to do some research. Nogii was founded by none other than Elisabeth Hasselbeck from the talk show The View. Her story of what lead her to Nogii was interesting to say the least. She struggled with stomach issues and fatigue and it wasn’t until a forced 39 day detox (being on the show Survivor will do that to you!) that she found out she suffered from Celiacs Disease. Celiacs Disease is an autoimmune disorder that affects the small intestine and can affect how you absorb food.

The product line for Nogii is impressive. Protein powders, bars, snack bars, paleo bars and kids bars. If you’re new to the whole GF way of life you can even pick up Elisabeth’s book – The G Free Diet. Nogii products are made with sustainably sourced, premium ingredients, NoGii bars have an ideal balance of protein, fat, and carbohydrates, and do not contain any trans fat, hydrogenated oils, or high fructose corn syrup. Score!

The D’Lite bars were my family’s fave. The kids couldn’t get enough. We tried the Caramel Bliss..  a perfect 120 calories when you’re craving a not so friendly candy bar. Plus they’re the perfect size for your little ones!

My next favorite was the Chocolate Coconut High Protein bar. If you know me AT ALL or even read my occasional blog.. coconut or chocolate is definitely a recurring theme. They have high protein bars which average about 17 grams of protein and 230 calories. They also have super protein bars which are 30 grams of protein and about 400 calories. I found the super protein bars were great on a work out day as a meal replacement. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Caramel Crisp bar was ridiculously good. Just look at the pictures of the Peanut Butter Chocolate High Protein bar and the Cookies & Creme Super Protein bar. Stop drooling..

The Nogii Whey and Quinoa Vanilla Bean Protein powder was a great addition to smoothies – 20 grams of protein! I didn’t really like it in my blender bottle. I didn’t find it to satisfy my hunger like some other protein powders do.

By now you must be at least a tad interested in trying these items yourself. Definitely follow my links! They have a store locator and i was amazed how many places close to me already carry them!

While you’re at it enter their #NogiiTableSetters contest! You can win an overnight trip for you and a guest to NYC to meet Elisabeth Hasselbeck! Enter here!

Worldfoods – easy, tasty, authentic curries & sauces even my kids love! (free $1 off coupon! for you)

What is one thing you wish people warned you about before you had kids?
For me.. it would be how drastically your eating habits change. Sometimes it downright sucks. I miss frequenting my fav thai restaurant. It was always a hard decision between the massamun curry – a coconut based curry with potatoes, onions, carrots and roasted peanuts or tofu with cashew nuts, onions, mushroom, carrots and scallions. Pair that with a sweet Thai iced tea and we’re good to go. Focus Sarah, focus.
Thanks to the kind folks at Moms Meet I was able to sample a mighty fine selection of WorldFoods sauces: Thai Yellow Curry cooking sauce, Indonesian style Fried Rice Nasi Goreng paste, Thai Green Curry paste and Thai Coconut Galangal stir fry sauce. All four of these are from their ‘Free From‘ product line that are “free from” gluten, dairy and nuts. Absolutely NOTHING artificial or genetically modified.

I wish I was one of those my-kids-eat-anything type Moms but I’m not and my kids don’t. No matter how hard I try, how many times I introduce new items.. they like what they like. I decided to throw all my reservations about ethnic cooking out the window and try again.
Guess what happened? No seriously.. guess….
My kids ATE IT. Ok Ok.. maybe you’re not as excited as I am.. fine. But my kids ate something that wasn’t in the shape of a dinosaur or out of a squeeze tube!

And using the sauces is easy peasy. We threw some chicken in the crock pot with the Coconut Galangal sauce and some frozen veggies. A few hours later we threw it over some rice. Done and done. That is seriously my kind of cooking. I work 40+ hours a week, not including my 2 hour commute everyday. The idea that I can have dinner ready and waiting.. PERFECT.
One night I decided to kick it up a bit. I grabbed the Nasi Goreng paste and threw all caution to the wind. Thankfully the jar has a SUPER easy recipe right on the side.
Step 1 – Make an omelette – cool & shred.
Step 2 – Add oil & Nasi Goreng past to your pan, cook for a couple of minutes.
Step 3 – Add chicken (it also calls for shrimp but I didn’t feel THAT adventurous aka I already had my jammies on and didn’t want to go to the store)
Step 4 – Once fully cooked, add cooked rice and TA DA!!
Guess what… MY KIDS ATE IT. If I could I would seriously hop a plane and shake Mr & Mrs WorldFoods Executive hands myself. They created a delish, simple yet authentic product that appeals to EVERYONE. Thanks guys, you guys rock!
Want to check out their sauces.. here is a coupon just for you!
